Why Stretching is Important

  • Post a comment

Stretching is very important  for your spine.  When a dog or cat wakes up what do they do?  They take their time and stretch their legs. So often when we wake up in the morning we jump out of bed and hurry up and get ready for work.  Without taking the time to stretch you are setting yourself up for problems down the line. If you take 15 minutes each morning to stretch your back and legs and neck then the muscle will be much more flexible.  What happens is that when people don't stretch they can slowly cause their vertebrae to move out of alignment.   One of the more common ways people hurt their back is by bending at the waist rather than at the knees when picking things up.  With leg and back muscles and bending at the waist you increase the chances that your back will go out on you.   So bend at the knees not at the waist and always stretch in the morning and periodically through the day.

Why it is important to see a chiropractor after an auto accident

  • Nov 16, 2009
  • Post a comment

If you are in a car accident it is important to see a chiropractor after the accident. What happens is that the impact my cause a misalignment in the spine if the impact is sever enough. Even though you may not feel any pain right away the pain can slowly develop months after the initial impact. Another reason why it is important is be checked is because you may have sustained a whiplash injury. The occurs when the car hits you from behind and your head quickly goes forward and then backwards. Sometimes this can cause a reversal of the curve in your neck and this can only be determined by taking an x-ray of your neck. Traction may be required to restore the curve of your neck due to the tearing or stretching of ligaments and tissues. If it is not restored then degeneration will begin with bone spurring and decrease in disk height as a result.
I also recommend that patients carry med pay on their car insurance incase their health insurance doesn't have chiropractic care and even if it does it may take more than the number of visits that their health insurance covers.

Ban is Advised on 2 Top Pills For Pain Relief

  • Nov 10, 2009
  • Post a comment

An advisory committee for the Federal Drug Administration recommended a ban on Percocet and Vicodin because of their effects on the liver.

The drugs contain acetaminophen which is found in Tylenol and Excedrin.

Each year 400 people die and 42,000 are hospitalized due to overdoses.

People are using these drugs to limit or decrease the pain they are experiencing.

Low back pain, neck pain, headaches are common reasons for taking it.

These are also the aches and pains that chiropractors can effectively treat.

Now doesn't it make sense to see a chiropractor to see if he can help rather than risk liver damage by taking acetaminophen?

Chiropractic Can Help Whiplash Pain, Says Dr. Kip Rode of Rode Chiropractic

  • Aug 12, 2008
  • Post a comment

A high percentage of auto accidents result in whiplash. To avoid short and long term pain, chiropractic care should be administered as soon as possible.

Poway CA, February 08, 2008 — According to the United States Department of Transportation, over the last decade there was an average of more than 5 million automobile accidents every year, resulting in more than 2 million injuries annually.

Perhaps the most common auto injury is whiplash, which is caused by a sudden movement of the head in any direction. The result is that muscles and ligaments supporting the spine can become strained or torn. Some symptoms include neck pain or stiffness, pain between shoulder blades, blurred vision, fatigue, headache, and dizziness to name a few.

Often times auto accident victims are not aware of the damage caused by whiplash. Symptoms sometimes do not appear immediately. They can take days to appear or may not even surface for years, according to Dr. Kip Rode, D.C., an expert chiropractor and owner of Rode Chiropractic. Because of this, Dr. Rode urges all accident victims to seek medical care whether they feel immediate pain or not. In some cases early detection of whiplash can significantly decrease long-term consequences. According to Dr. Rode, even after whiplash victims settle insurance claims, almost half suffer with symptoms even two years later.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 800,000 people suffer from whiplash every year. Costs related to whiplash total more than $5 billion annually. Today most cases of automobile whiplash are covered by insurance companies.

Often times, medical professionals like chiropractors will offer free consultations to auto injury victims to see if whiplash or any other injuries need proper care. Dr. Rode offers a free consultation at his practice, Rode Chiropractic. “That way it makes it easier for victims to see if they need help. Especially with whiplash cases, where many times victims don’t even know they are injured. I can’t stress the importance of medical care after an accident. It can really reduce long term pain, discomfort, and treatment,” said Dr. Rode

Dr Kip Rode Helps Patients To Lower Golf Score And Save Their Back

  • Aug 8, 2008
  • Post a comment

Press Release Summary = Dr. Kip Rode of Rode Chiropractic helps golfers improve their golf game this summer. Learn how chiropractic care can help golfers lower their score and stay injury free.

Dr. Kip Rode of Rode Chiropractic is helping golf lovers to stay on the green longer. "All too often I see golfers end up taking pain killers or having to stop playing all together, just because of back pain from golf. Recently chiropractic treatment has really caught on as an excellent way to alleviate those on-the-green pains," says Dr. Rode.

"The problems occur from all those repetitive golf swings. Since chiropractic is the science of the spine, we are in a good position to help golfers understand the correct way to take care of their bodies while still enjoying lots of golf," says Dr. Rode.

Professional golfers are well aware of the benefits that chiropractic care can provide. A recent study reported that up to 85 percent of injuries on the PGA Tour and Senior Tour relate to the spine. Between 70 to 75 percent of these golfers receive chiropractic care regularly. Amateur golfers can especially benefit from chiropractic care. There is approximately 25 to 30 million amateur golfers in America. Dr. Rode says, "It's my goal to educate golfers that chiropractic can really benefit them and keep them playing pain free."

Dr. Rode says, "Not only can chiropractors most effectively treat acute and chronic back injuries caused by golf, but can also help them prevent injuries. Some important things they should be doing are stretching before and after golfing, keeping hydrated, shortening your back swing, and using correct posture and stance."

Dr. Rode invites any golfer who is interested in improving their game and saving their back to schedule a complimentary office visit. "This way they can see how chiropractic might enhance their golf game."

Got a Splitting Headache? Dr Kip Rode is Using Chiropractic to Help Stop Headaches Forever

  • Jul 30, 2008
  • Post a comment

People who have been suffering from headeaches all their lives can now find relief.

Poway, CA (PRWEB) March 18, 2006 — According to the American Chiropractic Association, nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. Dr. Kip Rode, a local Poway, CA chiropractor, is using chiropractic to successfully stop migraine headaches in hundreds of patients who previously had little help from traditional medicine.

“Many of my patients felt like there was no hope for them,” says Dr. Rode. “There is a large segment of our population who suffer silently with headache pain almost every day. They often turn to pain killers to temporarily stop the pain. But drugs only provide short term relief, it doesn’t fix the core problem at hand. We are using chiropractic to fix the source of the migraines and we are having excellent results.”

Is there evidence that chiropractic can stop headache pain? New research shows that spinal manipulation - the primary form of care provided by doctors of chiropractic - may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck. A report released in 2001 by researchers at the Duke University Evidence-Based Practice Center in Durham, NC, found that spinal manipulation resulted in almost immediate improvement for those headaches that originate in the neck, and had significantly fewer side effects and longer-lasting relief of tension-type headache than a commonly prescribed medication.

Dr. Rode says that in recent years the medical community has embraced chiropractic because it offers treatment without the use of drugs or surgery. “In treating headache pain, most experts agree that conservative care should be tried before more invasive treatments are considered. That’s what chiropractic offers. It has a long history of effectively stopping pain yet doesn’t require the use of prescription or over the counter painkillers that can have negative consequences. Chiropractic is all-natural and frequently is CAre affordable than other options. We say why suffer when you don’t have to? We invite people to come on down and explore if chiropractic might work for them.”

Dr. Kip Rode offers his consultation free of charge to anyone looking into chiropractic and how it might help them. “This way they can make an informed decision, and it doesn’t cost them anything.” Dr. Kip Rode, D.C. is located at 13248 Poway Road Suite B, Poway, CA 92064. Don’t Do This, Do This instead

Don’t Do This Do This Instead

One of the most common ways my patients have hurt their back is by picking up something heavy and then as the lift they twist at the same time. For instance you are moving a heavy item from the ground to the top of a table and it is just easier to twist and put it on the table than to properly position yourself. This is a really excellent way of damaging the disks in your spine. You see the lower back is really not designed to twist or rotate much. It is really designed to go up and down. So what you want to do when you lift up a large heavy item is lift it straight up and then move your body by moving your feet rather than twisting. So Don’t lift and twist Do lift and shuffle or move your feet to properly position your body.  I am located on 13248 Poway Road Ste B 858 391-1372.  For more information go to Rode Chiropractic or Poway Chiropractic or Press Release

How To Sleep Properly

  • Jun 28, 2008
  • Post a comment

Welcome Back
Believe it or not but there are good ways to sleep on a bed and ways that will actually aggravate your condition. The best way to sleep on a bed it to lie flat on your back, the second best is on your side and the worst is on your stomach. The reason why laying on your stomach is bad is because you have to turn your head either to the left or to the right so you can breath, and this will actually cause neck problems. Laying on your side is OK if you support your head so that your spine is straight and not tilted up by a big pillow. You also want to put a pillow in between your legs to help support your hips otherwise a you spine might twist. Finally laying on you back is the best because you can evenly support your neck and back. It is best for you neck if you have your head lie flat on the bed, and then roll up a hand rag or small hand towel just enough to support your neck while letting your head lie on the bed. If you have a back condition put some pillows under your knees and this takes pressure off your back. Key To a Healthy Spine

  • Jun 28, 2008
  • Post a comment

Maintaining Balance is the Key to a Healthy Spine

What do I mean by balance?
What I mean is that when you carry something with your right hand you should periodically carry something in your left hand. This helps balance the load on your spine. One problem women have is that they always carry their purse on one shoulder and not the other. Over time this will cause a misalignment in their spine. So you need to shift your purse to the other shoulder. This is also true when carrying a new born child around. Typically the mother or father will always hold the child on one side. Usually their stronger hand and arm. But you really need to hold the child in the other side as well. Children who have book bags should also wear both shoulder straps rather than carry the book bag on one shoulder. Balancing the load on your spine is important to keeping it aligned.
